VISIDOT SOLUTION BRINGS SPANISH COMPANY AN ACCURATE TRACEABILITY SYSTEM AND FASTER CHECKING OF SHIPMENTS

Campofrío, an international food and nutrition group and a leader in Spain’s meat products market, has industrial plants in Spain, Portugal, Rumania and Russia, and sales offices in other countries in Europe. Due to the excessive amount of time invested in checking shipments of manufactured products at its fresh products plant in Burgos, Carnes Selectas 2000, the company contacted Zetes to look into automating its processes. After an in-depth analysis of the various technologies available, Zetes created a made-to-measure solution for the client, based on ImageID's Visidot - a traceability system with imaging technology. The solution was customised to match Campofrío’s requirements.
Campofrío decided to replace the old RF system because it was spending a great deal of time to manually check thousands of crates of produce a day. It was replaced by a fast, automatic Visidot system that captures multiple 2D code labels positioned on the crates. This allows Campofrío to execute a very accurate control of the 300+ pallets a day handled by the production centre, as well as its daily shipments.
The data obtained is checked against the orders from each customer, providing the operators with real time alerts in the event of differences, and visual indications if the products are not properly palletised. Campofrío decided to integrate this new and complete traceability solution with their ADAIA WMS (Warehouse Management System).
“Working with manual processes based on hand–held terminals was causing bottlenecks which could potentially limit the output of our production plant in times when there is a great volume of work”, says Santiago Peña, IT Systems Director of the Campofrío Group. “We were aware that we had to study solutions for the automation of our Shipping Verification processes.” The traceability system selected, Visidot, is based on vision technology and made by ImageID (which has recently been integrated into the Zetes Group). “Visidot met our need for a flexible, fast, reliable system.”
Deliveries Checking System
In order to achieve the aims set, Campofrío proceeded to label its crates of fresh produce with 2D Data-Matrix labels, as well as its pallets. Zetes installed four Visidot two-sided gates in the production plant shipping area, with two Visidot Readers and four high resolution cameras on each gate, an Operator Console and a Visidot SCT (Supply Chain Traceability) Director.
The Visidot solution now captures the information on the crates of meat products, replacing the hand-held terminals which were slowing down the process and were less efficient. The Campofrío configuration permits a maximum of 96 buckets in each pallet (48 per side).
The Visidot SCT Director software, allows the Depot operators to check the pallets upon dispatch and apply immediate corrective measures if there are any errors in the shipments.
The system only takes a few seconds to capture and decode the content of each pallet. All the information on the status of the products and the shipment is then stored on the Visidot SCT Director.
